Ocean Concept Map
The Atlantic Ocean is a S shaped basin that runs north-south direction. It is the second largest ocean. It is a little bigger than half of the Pacific Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean actually got its name from the lost city Atlantis. The Atlantic Ocean can hold up to 17 quadrillion gallons of water. Under the Atlantic Ocean there are plates about 3 to 4 miles thick. These plates are always forming so when more plates come the old ones fall into the middle of the earth and melt into magma. The magma then floats up and goes into volcanoes, that is why volcanoes erupt.

Teacher's Expectations can Influence how students perform
Robert Rosenthan, a Harvard professor did an experiment at an elementary school south of San Francico. This experiemt was to give kids an IQ test, take random students test and told the teachers that these kids were on the verge of intellectual bloom. The teacher knew these kids were higher educated then the others so they treated them differently. They let them focus more and have more time on stuff. This isn't fair to the other kids who may not be at smart so may need more time to answer questions. My favorite part of this article is the example of a boy who jumps up and down when the teachers ask a question and yells at him for being excited. That is not the way to react. It makes the boys attitude go down. Teachers needs to tell the boy to calm down but reinforce it by asking him to answer the question.
Markovic
Markovic's efforts have increased both students and teachers motivation in her school in Serbia. She has incorporated facebook as a reminder for the kids while they are at home. Since so many people have facebook now, that is an easy way to get in touch/remind people about events. She makes a good point about what advice she would give to a new teacher. She said you MUST listen to your students. By knowing what they want, it helps the teachers know how to teach.
Ghostly
After downloading both Collusion and Ghostly, I have found how that I like ghostly more. It is easier to work and see who is followining you. I don't really understand the diagram on collusion.Ghostly is simple because you just scroll over the ghost icon and it tells you exactly who is following your stuff.

facebook page
*What is this person known for:
Tri Delta, family, friends, boyfriend, goes to USM
*What does this person value:
I would say that this person values the same thing they are known for. It is full of friends, Tri Delta, and her boyfriend.
*Is this person committed to the growth of other people:
This person is and isn't committed to the growth of other people. Her friends are consistently around the same group of friends but has many new friends on facebook due to BID DAY that was today.

Nine ways to CC will change classroom practice
The more I read about the Common Core system, the more I understand and agree with it. After reading the article about the nine ways the common core will change classroom practice almost made me agree with it more then I did a few weeks ago. I like the fact that it will focus on fewer topics but go into greater depth with them. It is designed to build on students' understanding by introducing new topics with grade to grade. When taking math, it will help them apply their knowledge to solve problems. It will also allow the teachers to have more time to work the problems rather than expect the students to come up with the solution. The common core is some aspects actually seem like a logical idea. It seems that it will help out students and teachers, not just one or the other.

New technology in Western Springs
Chromebook just might be the best thing that has happened in schools. They help the teacher be more involved in what their students are doing instead of making them turn in their work every time the teacher wants to see their progress. It always saves paper in the sense that you can do online quizzes on the chromebook. It's crazy how many kids that are in kindergarten-2nd grade can work macbooks and chromebooks but I guess in a sense, that's better for the society. Having these accessable to you whenever you need it is great for the kids who maybe don't get the interent access at their homes.
Common Core using Media
I personally think public media would be useful to use in schools. It helps gives the students a better idea of what they are learning about. A video clip of even a tv show, like they said Prision Break, would be a good example to help explain more of what they are trying to get across to the students. Actually seeing something like a video clip or article would increase interest also and being able to visualize what it being taught.
Out-of-school settings create climate for new skills
I believe that outside schooling is beneficial. It gets the students more aware of the adult life. For example, the geocaching teaching students to work as a teach and to get their way around a city using a media device. Now days, technology is so important, everyone needs to how to work it because without it we would be lost. Also, outside of a classroom, students get to adventure on what their personal interest are. Being stuck in a class room all day makes students bored and tired. On the other hand, being outside is more lively and eye opening.

Educators Evaluate 'Flipped Classrooms'
Using video tutorials instead of actually teaching? I don't know if this would be a good idea or a horrible idea. I feel like students would pay more attention to an actual teacher more then a video. I thin if you are going to do the "flip classroom", you need to do both a lecture and a take home video, That would be the most beneficial for a student. Sometimes it is hard to pay attention in class but if you have a video to fall back on and review at home, it may increase grades. A video would also help a student learn because they would stop and rewind if they don't understand a problem clearly.
As K-12 classrooms go high-tech, colleges get more virtual
It is crazy how schools these days are requiring their students to have ipads and computers in class. When I was in high school, only 3 years ago, my teachers never dreamed of us using these great technologies in the classroom. Teachers say the technology was helpful in the classroom. It made their job easier and improved the students experience. Schools across the country are upgrading their computers in the school. I think teaching students how to use ipads and computers at a young age will help our society. Everything we do in the business world deals with technology so it would be easier for the kids to know how to work these different things so it will help their work life.
Eight Problems with Common Core Standards
In the article, "Either Problems with Common Core Standards" basically is telling us that it has its problems because people expect everything to stay the same. No one likes change, but whether we like it or not, everything changes. It says that it kills innovation, which is true. Every teacher/person has different thoughts on how school should work. Just because one teacher or parent thinks that one thing should go one way does not mean that that it should. Everyone has their way to doing things and their way of teaching as long as it gets the job done. They use a good example in this article from a lady named Jennifer. She teaches second grade and loves it no matter how much she gets paid or what people think. She does her job how she wants to do it because that is what works for her.
